4 Tetris Halloween Costume Ideas

Can't seem to come up with a clever idea for a Halloween costume this year? No worries, we have a list of 4 easy Tetris costume designs that are sure to inspire you!

With Halloween rapidly approaching, many of us will be planning our costumes and purchasing candy to pass out to trick-or-treaters. The older we get, the harder it becomes to pick out original costume ideas. While we could go to the store and purchase one, it’s always nice to make one from scratch.

Now, with so little time left until Halloween, making a costume can seem like an impossible task. To help kickstart your creativity, we put together a list of 4 Tetris Halloween costume ideas that are relatively easy to put together!

1) Cardboard Tetriminos

For this Tetris costume idea, all you need are a few cardboard boxes and a little bit of creativity!

If you have access to a cardboard box or two, you’re already halfway done with your cardboard Tetrimino costume! The easiest cardboard Tetriminos to make are the I-Tetrimino and the O-Tetrimino. To create them, all you need is the following:

  • One large box
  • Paint (appropriate to your Tetrimino’s official color)
  • Scissors (to cut the box to size, and to create openings for your arms/face)

If you want to get a bit more creative, you can glue a few boxes together to create a T-Tetrimino or an S-Tetrimino. After that, try to plan out what you’re going to wear underneath your cardboard Tetrimino costume.

We recommend a standard pair of black pants, black shoes (if you already own a pair), and a long-sleeve black shirt. That way, the main focus will be on your cardboard Tetrimino! Overall, the cardboard Tetrimino costume is one of the easiest Tetris costumes to put together.

2) A Full Tetris Matrix

Another way you can utilize cardboard boxes is by transforming one side into a giant Tetrix Matrix.

Similar to the cardboard Tetrimino idea, you can also utilize one huge sheet of cardboard to turn yourself into a walking Tetris Matrix. This one is a bit more challenging, as it requires you to paint out a full Tetris Matrix rather than just painting your box the official Tetrimino color.

However, if you have a knack for painting, or want to create something a little different, transforming yourself into a Tetris Matrix is certainly a fun idea! Similar to the cardboard Tetriminos, all you’ll need is the following:

  • One large, rectangular box
  • Paint (assorted colors)
  • A ruler (to help neatly paint your Tetris designs)
  • Scissors (to cut the box to size, and to create an opening for your face)

After that, cut your box to comfortable proportions (where your body is covered but you’re still able to walk). Then, grab your paints and start designing! You can use the Tetris Matrix from your favorite game as inspiration, or you can create a Halloween themed border.

Next, be sure to have an all-black outfit planned so that you blend into the back of the Matrix. The human sized Tetris Matrix is definitely the perfect costume idea for those of you who enjoy humorous and creative costume designs. Plus, it’s super easy to make!

3) Tetris on Game Boy

Want a costume that’s a bit more specific? Relive your childhood with the unique look of Tetris on Game Boy!

Again, this design is similar to the cardboard Tetriminos and full Tetris Matrix ideas. If you’re not keen on creating a full Tetris Matrix, you can always switch things up and create a life-size Game Boy with Tetris playing on the screen!

This costume can be tricky if you plan to create both the front and back of the Game Boy (using a single box). To save time, we recommend sticking with just the front face of the Game Boy (similar to the Tetris Matrix idea), but you’re free to make the design as intricate as you like!

To create a Tetris on Game Boy costume, you’ll need the following items:

  • One to two large, rectangular boxes
  • Paint (assorted colors)
  • A ruler (to help neatly paint your Tetris designs)
  • Scissors (to cut the box to size, and to create an opening for your face/arms)

With your supplies ready to go, you’ll need to plan out what your costume will be. Do you want to use a single rectangular box (similar to the I-Tetrimino) to create a full Game Boy? Or, would you prefer to keep it simple and focus on just the front side of the Game Boy?

With your design in mind, get to work cutting the box to proportion (where it’s comfortable for you to walk and move around). After that, it’s time to paint your Game Boy with Tetris playing on the screen! We recommend starting with the Game Boy’s exterior as it requires the most paint.

Once that dries, you can work on painting the smaller details. While this idea definitely requires a bit of time, it’s certainly a fun idea that many Tetris fans will relate to!

4) A Tetris Superhero

If you’re not a huge fan of cardboard, you can always think outside the box by creating a one-of-a-kind Tetris superhero costume!

Don’t want to use cardboard to create a costume? No worries, you can always create your very own Tetris superhero costume! You might be thinking, what would a Tetris superhero look like? Well, that’s largely up to you.

What’s nice about this costume idea is that you can purchase the costume’s base at your local Halloween store. After that, all you need to do is add a few Tetris designs to customize it and really make it stand out. What we recommend doing is finding a superhero costume that features a color scheme similar to your favorite Tetrimino. Then, you can work on transforming it into The Human T-Spin or I-Tetrimino Man/Woman.

To do this, you’ll need paint appropriate for use on clothing, and a ruler to apply the paint. Then, paint your Tetrimino on the costume’s cape, and on the front chest of your costume. If you want to get even more creative, you can create accessories for your superhero.

Don’t have a perferred Tetrimino? You can add Tetris elements to the entire costume and make it Tetris themed. In the end, this costume allows you to become as creative as you like, while sticking to a recognizable costume theme!

What do you think of these Tetris costume ideas? Do you have a better idea as to what you want to be this year? No matter what you decide on, the important thing to remember is to take it easy and have fun. And, what better way to have fun than to create a one-of-a-kind Tetris costume!
