How to Make Tetris Ice Cream Sandwiches

Ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches, are among some of the most beloved summer snacks. As we make our way through the hot summer months, it’s fun to look for creative new ways to enjoy ice cream. If you’re looking to try something new, we’ll tell you how to make delicious ice cream sandwiches in the shape of Tetriminos from Tetris.
Ice cream sandwiches are great summer snacks because they combine two awesome ingredients, ice cream and cookies. You can use any flavor combo of ice cream and cookie to create a one-of-a-kind ice cream sandwich. While sticking with a traditional circular cookie shape can be fun, another great way to enjoy ice cream sandwiches involves getting a little creative. This is where Tetris comes in.
In the past, we walked you through how to make Tetris cookies. If you tried your hand at that fun baking craft, you’ll be happy to know that the process of creating Tetrimino ice cream sandwiches is quite similar. However, you’ll have to take your baking skills up a Tetris level with the use of ice cream. So, how do you make Tetrimino ice cream sandwiches? There are a few supplies you’ll need to have, including:
- Ice cream (any flavor)
- Cookie dough or soft premade cookies (any flavor)
- Tetrimino cookie cutters or knife
- Ice cream scoop
Once you’ve gathered all of your supplies, it’s time to start making your ice cream sandwiches. There are two ways you can go about doing this; you can purchase soft premade cookies, or you can bake your own batch of fresh cookies. Regardless of how you decide to prepare your cookies, you’ll want to cut them into Tetrimino shapes. If you’re baking your cookies fresh, use your Tetris cookie cutters to cut out 2 copies of the same Tetrimino. You’ll want to cut out your Tetriminos before you bake them, as the soft cookie dough is a bit easier to work with.
If you’re cutting soft pre-made cookies rather than dough, stack 2 cookies on top of one another in order to cut out 2 identical Tetriminos. If your cookies are too hard to cut, you can microwave them for 5-10 seconds depending on your microwave’s power to soften them up. With all of your Tetrimino shapes cut out and your cookies ready to go, it’s time to add your ice cream.
Before scooping out your ice cream, run warm water over your scoop to make the ice cream come out of the tub easier, since wrestling with cold ice cream can be tricky. Repeat the warm water process until you add 1 scoop of ice cream to each Tetrimino sandwich. Once you’re done, you can sit back and enjoy your Tetris treats!
If you don’t plan on eating your Tetrimino ice cream sandwiches right away, put them inside of a container and store them in your freezer. That way, your ice cream sandwiches will stay fresh and your beautiful treats won’t get crushed by other items you may have in your freezer.
